Two days in the Kalahari desert of Namibia. Idea, film, cut and postproduktion by David Strauss. Enjoy the Kalahari desert from one of twelve individual guest houses. Carrying the names of the largest wild animal species of the reservation, the stilted guest houses are arranged around a Vlei, a natural dry lake. All walking paths from the guest houses to the main building are paved, barrier-free, and well-lit. Exterior walls made from canvas and the traditional African thatched roofs guarantee an excellent indoor climate even with high outside temperatures. All bathrooms are built as solid construction. The living space of each guest house varies from 50 to 60 sqm.
The first in what we hope will be a series of such programs features an interview with noted photographer Kristin Capp. Through the generosity of a grant from the MetLife Foundation's Community Partnership Program, Ms Capp completed a three-month artist-in-residency on the Spokane Indian Reservation in the spring of 2007. There, she taught black and white photography techniques to twenty Wellpinit High School students whose work was later shown at the MAC and deposited in the Joel E. Ferris Research Library and Archives. Video production for this podcast was funded by a grant from the Bonneville Power Administration Tribal Affairs program.
This is my video perspective of the UNL Student trip that toured most of the country of Namibia in a little less than 3 weeks. We visited ranches, farms, game reserves and national parks. We experienced different view points on wildlife conservation from every angle, and got to meet some incredible people and see amazing places. This was the trip of a lifetime and I will never forget the lessons I learned and the memories we made.

As the discussions started our presentations focused on our individual lived realities as a lesbian and a gay person, however it was imperative to extend the conversation to persons who identify as trans diverse persons as...

The two houses called Blue and Black Wildebeest are named after the two gnu species of the reservation. Since they look very similar and tend to form groups together, they have named these "twin houses". As a unit, the houses are perfect for families or groups of friends and are connected by a boardwalk closed to one side. Thus, it is possible to cross from one house to the other without having to go "outside". The facing exterior walls are solid, the exterior walls on the averting sides consist of canvas. The houses can also be booked separately. In that case, the doors to the boardwalk will be locked. Especially during sunset, the houses offer a breathtaking view over the grass savanna with its camel thorn trees. Distance from the main building: 180 meters.
